We are a racing team known by the name Hui Ho'ola. In the Hawaiian language "hui" generall means team and "ho'ola" means save, heal and cure. Talk about a race for the cure. How about 340 miles -- on a canoe -- for 60 straight hours -- all for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Beginning July 19, my racing partner Stephen Mahelona and I will paddle a Huki outrigger canoe to tackle the mighty Missouri River for 340 non-stop miles as we seek to raise awareness and funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Stephen and I are entered into the 2011 Missouri River 340, the world's longest non-stop river race, to make a contribution to a cause very close to Stephen.
Stephen's wife Stacie has undergone breast cancer treatment and surgery this past year, so we wanted to make a difference by racing and raising funds for the fight against breast cancer.
I want to invite this outrigger paddling community to visit our website at http://huihoola.weebly.com/
and consider making a donation.
We want to thank Jude at Huki for stepping up and joining our effort in a significant way. We promise to make you proud on your canoe.
Thanks all,
Dan "Osprey" Grubbs

Steve Cole, CEO and Founder of Kole'Gear, was nice enough to give thegearcaster.com the run down on his approach to pressurized hydration and his new line of packs.
To achieve superior and constant pressurization, Kole'Gear uses a natural food grade rubber latex balloon bladder system instead of relying on air pumped into a normal bladder such as the Polarpak MOFLOW. A bottle and pump comes included in order to pump liquid into the bladder, so it does require some pre-activity preparation but nothing more complicated than filling a normal hydration pack. The 1.75 liter capacity filled balloon offers continuous water pressure unlike other packs that will lose their pressure as the water volume decreases. Simply bite the antimicrobial valve and receive a constant stream of water-the theory is you won't ever have to suck for water when you should be breathing instead. I could have used one of these on Kilimanjaro!
A Kole'Gear waistpack and backpack version of the pressurized hydration system will be available first (due out soon!). The future applications are where it gets even more innovative. Steve said his company plans to come out with the Saddlebullet- a cycling attachment that straps to the bottom of a bike seat. The saddlebag and balloon bladder are connected to a tube that runs along the frame of the bike and hooks on to the rider's handlebars for easy access.
The Kauai, Hawaii based Company also plans an insulated hose version for extreme cold or hot climates and a quick fill faucet attachment to eliminate the need for the filling pump.
Chris Combs, Manager of Marketing and Design, explains how the Kole'Gear system works over at thegearcaster

Aloha,
My name is Bradah Mel Puu. I'm a Surfer, Canoe Paddler, and a Lifeguard for the City & County of Honolulu since 1982. For the past five years I have held a surfing event at Makaha Beach as a fundraiser for a friend of mine Mr. Leighton Look, who was paralyzed in a diving accident. Sadly he passed away on September 25th 2008. It has now turned in to a memorial event for Leighton, and it is my hope to keep his legacy and his kind nature alive in our hearts and minds.
This year, as it was done last year the proceeds will be given to two of Hawaii's Olympic hopefuls, Patrick and Ryan Dolan. Patrick has been on the U.S. Olympic Kayak team for a few years now and his younger brother for two years. Their goal is to do well in the single and two person kayak event at the nationals as well as over-sea's and reach the 2012 Olympics. With the Olympic funding cut-off last year and limited funding this year, Patrick and Ryan along with their mom Anne has to do most of the fundraising on their own, and it hasn't been easy. I know whatever we are able to raise will be greatly appreciated. The event attracts the best paddlers and surfers from Tahiti, Brazil, France, as well as the U.S. and Hawaii. It has two divisions, Canoe Surfing and Stand-Up Surfing. If you have ever seen Canoe Surfing before then you know that it's one of the most exciting water sport ever. And Stand-Up Surfing or SUP is the fastest growing art of surfing since boogie boards!
I understand that times are tight and it is hard to give a lot, but we will try our best to assist them too reach their goals of the 2012 Olympic Games. We are asking for any amount of cash donations, or any type of donations possible. We will be holding a Raffle drawing at the event so a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, a boogie board, surf board, or whatever you can give would be greatly appreciated. But the goal is to raise money for the boys to get to their competitions, and then to the 2012 Olympics. I thank you so much for spending the time to read my letter and hope that you can join us at Makaha for this year’s event.

Hey Folks!
For those of you wishing to share a light-hearted perspective on surviving cancer from an author who has experienced it, please consider this book. Additionally she is hoping to raise enough money to give back to current hospitalized cancer patients. Thanks for you time-
Regina Savage was the NAC Dragonboat Survivor Team Coach until her book started to be promoted internationally, she now has begun to focus more of her time and energy towards bringing this sense of humor to other cancer survivors.
