Unfortunately, due to logistical difficulties, Outlaw Paddling has made the decision to postpone the forthcoming Outlaw Ocean Race 3, at Lorne. Instead, we have been offered the opportunity to team up with the Great Ocean Sports Festival in Apollo Bay, on 26th February. We apologise for any inconvenience, and are happy to refund people who have already entered online.

We encourage you to hold onto your entry, though, because the race in Apollo Bay promises to be a cracker. More information will be available in the coming weeks - keep an eye on the Outlaw website. In the meantime, if you'd like to find out more about the Great Ocean Sports Festival, and the terrific line-up of events, please follow the linke here: http://www.gosportsfestival.com.au/

KIALOA To Sponsor The Kalaupapa Canoe Project

 , the maker of high quality, professional outrigger paddles has jumped in to help The Earth Trot Project by offering to donate paddles to the community of Kalaupapa.  The company will be sending the paddles out from their headquarters in Bend, Oregon in time for our voyage which is tentatively planned for the last weekend in October.   

At this point, paddlers have been very excited about the project and making the journey over to Kalaupapa.  The excursion may prove to be quite a challenge if the winter swells arrive before or during the crossing from Maui to the North Shore of Moloka’i.  It is in the winter months when the sea on Moloka’i's North Shore becomes extremely violent and taking an old canoe out in conditions where wave heights can be upwards of ten feet will certainly provide a challenge for the crew.

Accompanying the Kamali’i, Uncle Kimokeo Kipahulehua has shown an interest in making the journey as well.  Kimokeo, an international activist in Hawaiian culture and preservation has been working with us to make sure we are completely prepared for the journey.  His crew and potentially several others will be escorting the Kamali’i from Maui to Moloka’i.  After the boat is given to the community, Uncle Kimokeo, his crew and the rest of the crews will be continuing the journey the rest of the way around Moloka’i before making it back to Maui.

The Nadi Bay men’s team walked away with the Fiji Outrigger Regatta V6 Marathon Championships held in at Nadi’s Wailoaloa Beach yesterday.

 Led by veteran Stanley Ooms, the Nadi paddlers led all the way in the 22km race which started off at Wailoaloa Beach and finished at Beachcomber. 

Ooms and his team paddled to shore with a time of 1hour 45minutes, followed by Kaiwai club of Suva with a minute less. 

In the women’s 16km race which started off at Beachcomber Island Resort and finished off at Treasure Island. 

It was Kaiwai that won the event with South Pacific Mini Games silver medalist Natalia Evans powering the Suva club, followed closely by Nadi Bay.

Association spokesperson, Michael Crowe says the next event will be held at Vuda Point on October 9 before the final one in Savusavu on November 6.

Team Bradley comes from behind to win Na Wahine O Ke Kai, extending winning streak to six straight years

 

In a race that celebrates the strength and stamina of its competitors, Team Bradley has now proved its staying power for six straight years.

The team of Hawaiian wahine from four different islands found the fortitude to overtake the Waikiki Beach Boys on Sunday in the 35th mile of the 41-mile Na Wahine O Kei Kai race across the Kaiwi Channel.

Flat water with a lack of open ocean swells kept Team Bradley from topping the course record it set in 2008. By catching a few bumps while approaching Maunaloa Bay, combined with some well-timed crew changes, Team Bradley finished in 5 hours, 54 minutes and 13 seconds, three minutes ahead of the Beach Boys.

In third place, in a time of 6:03.49, was Surfer’s Paradise team from Australia.

Team Revolusun, which combined members from New Zealand and Hawaii, finished fourth overall and first in the Masters 40-plus division in a time of 6:04.52.

The Outrigger Koa team won the Koa Division in which teams could only use wooden canoes as opposed to the modern fiberglass boats. The Outrigger Koa team from Hawaii finished in 6:38.53.
